Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! We know for many of you during your time at Stanford the ibraries have been a home away from home. As you plan for this next chapter, review upcoming changes to your library access.
Approaching graduation
- Plan ahead - be sure you have everything you need: Before your library privileges change when you graduate, download all the articles you need and submit any Scan-and-Deliver requests for articles or book chapters you anticipate needing.
- Return your materials: Please return all books and check to ensure your library account is in good standing by logging in to your My Library Account.
- Clear your Interlibrary Services account: Be sure books borrowed from other libraries have also been returned. View the Libraries Interlibrary Loan web page.
- Empty your library carrel or locker: Don’t forget personal items and notify the service desk that you have cleared the space.
- Read the Service Information for Graduating Students web page for important information about your SUNetID privileges, transferring/saving your student email, setting up alumni email, transferring your G-drive files, closing your AFS space, and more.
Immediate changes when you graduate
- University ID Card: Your student ID card gets deactivated within days of graduation, which ends all building access and expires your student library borrowing account, however, you will still be able to login to view your account.
- SUNetID: Some of your SUNetID privileges change after graduation during a 120-day grace period. During this time, you will still have access to your @stanford.edu email, VPN, and Google Drive. Upon graduation, you will no longer have access to library electronic resources.
- Department sponsorship: Under very limited circumstances, some academic departments may sponsor graduating students for temporary SUNetID with or without with library e-resources sponsorship. Check with your department because the Libraries do not sponsor SUNetIDs or sponsor library e-resource access. Visit Sponsoring Someone for Library e-resources for more information.
Alumni library privileges
As an alumnus/alumna, you are welcome to enjoy our libraries by registering as a visitor with a government ID at our entrances or you can purchase a library card at the alumni rate.
